Sunny, breezy Tuesday – goals for today

A chilly start to the day but at least it was in the 20’s…very sunny but breezy so it feels chilly. The girls were treated to the heater, set on low, last night since their water froze up a bit on Sunday night.

6 eggs yesterday and 6 at first check this morning. Will go check on them after this post to throw down some mealworms and to collect all eggs. Then, my project is to bring in wood, change the sheets on my bed, do some wash, and I think meatloaf is on the menu for tonight. Haven’t been on our diet this week – we’ll take a bit of a break.

Mid 40’s at the moment which isn’t bad for early November. Rain later this week with temps holding fairly steady. Just so not ready for cold weather.

Just signed up for the Gift of Life campaign in Rutland, being held on 12/17/13. Goal is to exceed the largest Red Cross blood drive in the US. Last year, our area missed topping the previous record by a mere 13 pints. I wanted to sign up last year but didn’t get the jump on it. This year I will donate though. My last donation was in 2006! Way too long ago. I have donated 5 gallons of blood so far since the first time, which was at GE. Seems so long ago!

I also ordered a fresh turkey at Wallingford Locker – Stonewood Farms. They are located in Orwell and the WCAX news just featured a story about them. Hefty price tag but it’s the local economy, they’re well grown and humanely cared for so what the heck. I think I might have had one in the past – and wasn’t real impressed – but I’ll try it again. Frank, Dick, Tom, Ruth, and I will gather around the dining room table for the feast. I think it’s my favorite holiday!

Slept fitfully again last night. Still not sure if I like the bed or not. Feels like a huge sink hole on my side of it. MUST get a new pillow!

Off to do my chores…such is life.

A cold, sunny Monday

10 degrees this morning.  A chilly weekend – went out to breakfast yesterday – and yes, Tom finally shaved.  There is a God…

Did FaceTime with my brother – a first for me – kind of funny but Mom got a kick out of it.  Was surprised she got the gist of it.

Need to change the bed today, do laundry and continue sorting through stuff in the dining room in anticipation of Thanksgiving.

Still in a kind of funk – mild depression I suppose.  Knee feeling 100% better but right foot still screwed up royally.  Time change sucks.

Friday, such as it is…

Massage today with Meredith.  Truly, she is one of the world’s most beautiful women.  It’s like I’ve known her all my life, or in a past life, or just that she “is”.  Spiritual, kind, just inspirational.  She said Daddy’s thinking about us today, sending us love, pink and white roses, and she asked me to light a candle at 6 this evening so she and Aunt Dot know that we realize they are with us.

Mom to doctor appointment – foot is doing much better and will continue to use ointment for another 2 to 3 weeks.

So windy today, torrential rain last night – all night.  Slept a bit better in new bed but left knee and right foot still killing me.  Not sure what’s going on there!  Left girls inside the coop until about 2:30 due to the rain.  They are out now, happy to be there and eating worms and bugs.  November 1st and a crazy 67 degrees.  Forecast points to snow by Sunday?  Mother Nature, you’re cruel!

Have to start to get supper together as Tom’s on his way home.  Burgers on the grill along with homemade Mac & Cheese.  Yummy!

Blah day…rain, gray, dreary

Will repot some plants today.  Raining, low 40’s.  Halloween!  Tom has 1/2 day vacation today.  Mom up late, just finished her breakfast and now working on water.

My right foot and left knee are killing me today – may not run today!!

Slept fitfully last night – need to investigate new pillows.  Just spent 60 bucks for a water pillow and I hate it!

Off to do laundry – dishes already finished – have to make bed and put a lot of clothes away.

Mid week…busy, busy, busy

Chiropractor yesterday – then home to get house picked up for the arrival of the new mattresses.  They arrived around 12:30 – to my surprise!  Set up in no time and I went to work getting sheets washed and on the beds.  I loved the frame and hoped the ComforPedic mattress will be great!

Took Mom for wash and set at Marcie’s.  Next appointment is in 3 weeks since Marcie’s going on vacation for a couple weeks – off hunting with Marty.

Started a beginning exercise program – found a 5K app training program and while I didn’t manage to run for the total 6 minutes, I did accomplish 4 minutes which is great for me!  Will try to keep at it and hopefully lose more weight!  Down about 22 pounds so far since the end of August!

Tom and Frank moved the old bed down into the cellar and we’ll need to decide what to do with it – not going to worry about it at the moment.

Today, I need to get cat food and medicine for Tom Tom then will come home and make soup.

Snowed this morning – only a few flakes – and the temp was around 30 degrees when I got up at 6:30.  Slept pretty well on the new bed – very comfortable!  Put the new bedspread on it this morning and just need to pick up the room a bit and it will look nice and cozy!

Mom slept well on her new mattress too.  Girls are out though it’s a bit chilly and overcast.

Doing tons of laundry today – so what else is new!

Not liking the cold weather…

12 degrees this morning.  Not thrilled.  Chiropractor this morning, Mom has hair appointment this afternoon and the new beds will be here today!  Yippeee!

Supposed to be sunny today, snow flurries tomorrow, warm up and rain by Thursday.

Off to take a shower then will get Mom up and ready for the day.  Another night of not sleeping well.  Can’t blame it on Harley the cat, instead Mom decided at 2:00 a.m. that it was time to get up for the day.  Likely will have a long day ahead of me.

Oh Monday…

I used to have a couple jobs, in my past life, that when Sunday night rolled around I truly felt sick to my stomach.  That nagging feeling that it would soon be Monday morning, the start to the dreaded work week – or at least the normal work week.  There were jobs when I worked 70+ hours a week, worked essentially a 24/7 job, worked mentally all the time.  Just not fun.

While my stress level has significantly diminished, yes there is stress in having to take care of my 96 year old mother, I am so glad that I don’t have to face dealing with stupidity at jobs that just wore on me tremendously.  I can now enjoy a Monday – truly enjoy it.

And, that’s what I’m doing today.  Having dealt with satellite internet for many years, and being frustrated with its inconsistencies, I’m now the proud owner of DSL service ~ with Wifi to boot!  Whoo Hooo!  I just accessed the service today and talk about blazing fast!  And it’s just the basic service – not the true freaky superfast speed package.  All I can say is WOW.  I’m sorry it took me so long to make the switch!

So today isn’t much different weather wise than it’s been for ages.  Gray, chilly, blustery and I swear about 1/2 hour ago we had a snow squall.  Supposed to be in the teens tonight and guess I should get the woodstove going.

Headed to the kitchen to make a pot of soup.  Then off to work on picking up the house a bit.  It’s been a disaster over the past year since we moved in my mom.

Did I mention I’m in the process of learning Italian?

Sunday…peaceful Sunday

Low 40’s, windy, gray again.  Let the girls out at 7:30 am & they are busy scratching and eating at the moment.  It’s been a little over 5 months since we lost Sophia to the coyote and my heart still aches for her.  She was a deep burgundy reddish color, just so sweet.  I’ve been protective of them since – yes, I know they’re only chickens.  But, they are mine and I love them.  All with such different personalities; Abby, Hannah, Juliet, Karla, Greta, Sass, Isabella, Molly, Maggie.  I thought I would never be able to tell them apart and be able to figure out who was who but after spending time with them, I do know all of them and their quirks and temperament.

Found a flock of about 50 Canadian Geese on the pond this morning – a stop over on their long journey south.  They didn’t stay long but Mom got a chance to see them which was nice.  The cherry chest looks beautiful in the living room – I have the Christmas cactus, African Violet, Jade plant, and another houseplant on top of it along with a Simon Pearce “Chelsea Optic” vase and Grandmother’s cut glass vase.  Need to repot most of the plants and will try to get to that this week.

Our new beds / mattresses will arrive this week.  I bought a Simmons Comforpedic foam king sized mattress and a new frame.  We started out with an old mattress / spring frame set up then went to a water bed.  After that, we had a pillow topped mattress, and them our most recent firm Simmons Expedition mattress which we’ve hated since we purchased it.  Always queen sized but now moving up to a king and can’t wait!  The only problem is that I have no idea how they’re going to get it upstairs!

It’s almost 10:30 am so I better get breakfast for Mom and I.  I think a ham and cheese omelet will be nice.  Not sure what else the day will bring…have to go to the store and pay some bills – and always laundry.  Maybe will visit later?  We’ll see what unfolds.

October 26, Days of Autumn

Mid 40’s but blustery, cold, and gray.  Found that Juliet’s face was swollen, not sure what happened to her.  Moved the cherry 4-drawer chest into the living room from the garage today, it looks great in the living room but trouble is, I have way too much furniture and just not enough space to put everything.  Tom and Eleanor’s furniture arrived today – took a couple pictures of the moving truck at the house.  Closing is scheduled for the 19th of November.  Had a Gill’s grinder today – so good…haven’t had one in ages so really enjoyed it.  As usual, spoke with Ed today.  Soup for supper and an early night to bed.
